Veteran’s Day Teachable Moment

Nov 5, 2014 by

Teaching History websiteVeteran’s Day is a day set aside to celebrate all of those servicemen and women who have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms.  The date, November 11, coincides with Armistice Day and Remembrance Day which are celebrated in other countries.  All of these holidays include celebrations of the end of World War I on the 11th day of the 11th month at the 11th hour.

The Teaching History website has some great resources for teachers and students to learn about what Veteran’s Day means and how it came to be.  Teachers can divide students into teams and have them use these resources to research, compare and contrast the different ways that countries honor their veterans.
