Monday Success: Creative Assessment

Oct 27, 2014 by

This week’s Monday Success story comes from Kathleen, a World Language teacher in Rhode Island.  Kathleen has attended a few seminars and I am lucky to work with her. She has embraced trying new things and replaced the traditional paper mid-term. Instead, she had her students create magazines.  The students prepared for mid-term day by creating their magazine based on a 15-point rubric, including one “article” that included and embedded video with their voice.   Students worked on their magazines until mid-term day when they each presented their magazine to the class.  Kathleen told me, “I loved this project as it put onus on the learner and allowed a level of creativity unattainable in a paper.”  Great job, Kathleen!  Thank you for sharing.

Below is an example of the creative assessment by one of the students in Kathleen’s class.
